Fraction Bars

In this manipulative, colored bars of any length from 1 to 10 are available. Using this virtual manipulative you may:

• Add bars to the workspace
• Change the color of the bars
• Move bars
• Remove bars from the workspace

Add bars to the workspace

To place a bar into the workspace:

1. First, set the desired length with the up- and down-arrows.


2. Click the New button. You may add multiple bars by repeatedly clicking the New button.

Change the color of the bars

Each bar-length comes with a particular color, but you can use the palette of colors to make a bar any color you choose:

1. Select the bar by clicking on it.


2. Click the color button for the color you want.


3. If you want more copies of a bar whose color you have changed, select the bar and click the Clone button as often as you want.

Move bars

1. Click and drag any bar wherever you want it in the workspace.


2. Click the color button for the color you want.
3. When you click at one of the corners, a black circle appears and you can turn the bar vertical or horizontal.
4. When one bar is moved near to another bar, they will snap together.

Remove bars from the workspace

1. To remove individual bars, click and drag any bar to the Trash Can to delete it.


2. To remove all bars from the workspace, click the Clear button.
