Constructing 3D Shapes

To complete this activity:

  1. Consider using a physical model the first time you try a virtual construction.

The isometric geoboard is well-suited to create three-dimensional (polyhedra) representations.

  2. Use one geoband for each side of the shape you wish to create. For example, if you are making a cube, you need six geobands (even though you may never see a side when viewing your shape.

Why might it be better to use one geoband for each side of your construction?

  3. Start your construction from the back (or hidden views) and make each side. It is easier if you start with sides that will be totally hidden, and finish with sides that are fully in view.

Can you make a generalization about the shapes of sides when using the isometric geoboard to represent a three-dimensional shape?
